Spring is here, and even though the air might be chilly, the spring real estate market is just around the corner! Spring is a great time to sell or buy a home. Buyers will be looking for their dream home, and your home may be the one that fills all of their needs. In order to attract the right buyer in this competitive market, your home needs to be in shape for the spring season. Here are a few tips to get your home ready for the spring market!

Declutter your home

Before you do anything, you’ll want to declutter your home to make it feel light and minimalistic for anyone coming for a viewing or seeing photos online. Having clutter and excess personal items in your home can limit a potential client from imagining how they would live in the space. Take the time to pack up personal items like family photos and momentos, and store them away for your move. Decluttering before selling your home will make your move much easier.

Decluttering could mean moving out excess furniture to make room for a more minimalistic look, and removing items that look messy and disorganized. Put away any everyday items in cabinets and drawers that can still easily be accessed. If this task seems daunting, consider this as the first step to packing.

Do a thorough spring clean

A deep clean is so important before putting your house on the market. Buyers will expect to see a clean home when viewing for the first time. Deep clean your home or hire a company to do it. Clean the windows, countertops, appliances, floors, lights – everything.

Eliminating odours is crucial when showing a home. Prospective buyers can be turned off because of the smell of a home. Cleaning carpets and a deep clean of your home can help. Avoid using very fragrant sprays and candles, and use something fresh.

Make any repairs and small improvements

Take the time to go through your home and see if there is any damage that needs to be fixed. If someone is buying your home, they will most likely ask you to fix the damage, so why not do it now?

Most buyers will want to customize their own fixtures and renovations, but if you notice anything that is worn down, replace or improve it. This can be anything from old light fixtures, hardware, and door knobs. Consider adding a fresh coat of paint to the walls and remove any scuff marks.

Improve your curb appeal

The front yard is the first area potential buyers see, so make a great first impression! Make your front entrance inviting by mowing the lawn, removing weeds and leaves, and add planters or flowers to add brightness. If your front door needs some work, add a fresh coat of paint.
